Custom Orthotics and Bracing An endless array of modern customized shoe inserts and braces are now being used to non-surgically treat a wide variety of ailments from simple foot fatigue and calluses to diabetic foot ulcers and collapsing feet. Some examples follow.   Functional Foot Orthotics Designed to control abnormal mechanics (movement) in the foot, these custom inserts have been proven to effectively relieve heel pain and other problems. Accommodative Orthotics Designed to "accommodate" for symptomatic prominances on the soles of feet and are generally softer than functional foot orthotics. Articulated Ankle-Foot-Orthotics (AFO's) These are a new line of low-ankle braces allowing for full ankle movement but protection of other injured or dysfunctional joints in the foot.
